That $60 'ultralight' sleeping pad gave me two nights of frozen ground in Colorado
Bought one of those inflatable pads rated to 20 degrees, woke up shivering both nights near Leadville even with a good bag. Should have just stuck with my old foam pad, has anyone else found the R-value claims to be total marketing fluff?

Ha! Sounds about right. Those R-value numbers are basically written in fairy dust and hope. I once tested a "4-season" pad on a clear night in the Sierra and swear the ground was laughing at me.
Honestly, I think the only thing those pads insulate is your wallet. My old foam pad has outlasted three fancy inflatables and still keeps my hips from screaming.
Colorado at Leadville in the winter is a whole different beast, that altitude just sucks the warmth right out of you. Did you at least get a good sunrise out of the frozen misery?
