Shoutout to the ranger at Glacier National Park
Last summer I was planning a 6 day hike through the backcountry and this ranger told me to skip the Highline Trail and take the Dawson-Pitamakan loop instead. Said the Highline would be packed with day hikers even with permits. He was totally right. I had maybe 3 other groups on the whole route and the views were unreal. Anyone else gotten a tip from a ranger that really paid off?

Man, that's such a good call. It's funny how the best stuff is always the stuff people try to steer you away from, like the hidden gem coffee shop or that back road that takes ten minutes longer but has zero traffic.

Honestly, "ten minutes longer but zero traffic" is a pretty specific example. You sure that's not just your personal preference for avoiding highways rather than some deep truth about hidden gems? Tbh most back roads are just slower and full of stop signs, not some secret life hack.
