Permit websites crashing on release day is beyond annoying
I set my alarm early to book a spot for the High Sierra trail, but the site froze as soon as tickets went live. Now my whole summer route is up in the air because of their junk system. What's your backup plan when this happens?

Honestly, just do what @jessicahunt did and refresh for drops while picking a less popular backup trail.

It's rough but kinda expected for big trails, you know? I just assume the tech will choke and have a plan B trail in mind. Last year I refreshed for cancellations daily and got a Coyote Gulch permit two weeks out. Sometimes you gotta play the long game with these systems.

Relying on cancellations like @jessicahunt did just turns the whole system into a stressful game of luck. It rewards people who can sit around refreshing a page all day instead of having a fair shot. That constant checking for two weeks sounds miserable and doesn't fix the broken tech problem at all. We should expect these sites to work right from the start, not plan for them to fail.
