My water filter froze solid on the Hoh River trail last November

I was 6 miles into the rainforest section near Olympus and my Sawyer Squeeze turned into an ice brick in 34 degree rain. Has anyone else dealt with a frozen filter in wet conditions and found a way to keep it flowing?

Yeah I'll be honest I used to think you could just shake it out or keep it in your jacket and it'd be fine. Then I had this exact thing happen near Three Fingered Jack and I was stuck sipping cold stream water for two days while my filter sat there useless. That changed my mind real quick. Now I sleep with it in my bag and keep a backup chemical treatment for those wet cold trips.

Is a frozen filter really that common or are people just not storing them right?
