My GPS app led me 4 miles off trail before I noticed the wrong pin

Took me 2 hours and a soaked pair of socks to realize I'd dropped a waypoint at a random picnic table near Flagstaff, has anyone else trusted a saved route too fast and paid for it?

You could argue the GPS did exactly what it was supposed to. You dropped a pin, and it took you to that pin. Trusting your own saved route is on you, not the app. A paper map wouldn't have told you where you left your lunch spot either. Most people walk half a mile before they check their screen, so four miles is just a longer version of the same mistake. Dry socks would've been nice, but the trail's not a personal assistant. Next time, maybe look at the terrain before you commit to a dot on a screen.
