I used to plan my trips around the highest peaks, but now I aim for the quietest lakes.
After a crowded weekend on the John Muir Trail last July, I realized the solitude was gone. Anyone else shift their route goals from summits to secret spots?

Wait, you found the John Muir Trail crowded? That's wild.

Wild like a sardine in a tin can, maybe. I did the southern half last summer and swore I was back in Yosemite Valley with all the people. Had to wait 45 minutes at one of the Muir Trail Ranch bear boxes just to find a spot for my food bag.
