I finally tried the old trail bypass near Marble Mountain last week

My map showed a washed-out bridge, so I took a side path marked with faded ribbons that added about two miles. It led me to a hidden meadow full of wildflowers I never knew was there, completely changing the feel of the whole day hike. Has anyone else found a better route by ignoring the main trail lately?

Happened to me on the Sawmill loop last month. A downed tree forced a detour that passed an old fire lookout foundation, totally worth the extra time.

Makes you wonder how many cool things we miss by sticking to the beaten path.

While I love @schmidt.kim's find, I always stick to the main trail for safety.
