Got caught in a thunderstorm on the Pemi Loop and finally ditched my paper map

Last fall I was hiking the Pemi Loop in NH when a storm rolled in around Garfield Ridge. My paper map got soaked and started falling apart in my hands. I had the GPS on my phone but no backup battery, so I was nervous the whole way down. After that trip, I bought a Garmin InReach Mini 2 and an Anker 10k mah battery pack. The weight difference is maybe 4 ounces more, but not having soggy paper is worth it. Anyone else switch to digital nav after a bad weather trip?

Soggy paper" is a bummer but I've been using the same map for years and it's survived rain, snow, and me dropping it in a creek. Is it really that serious or just an excuse to buy more gear?

Got caught in a similar situation on Lafayette and totally feel you. I used to be a paper map purist too but after one storm turned my map into wet confetti I changed my tune real quick.
