Got caught in a freak storm on the Appalachian Trail near Roan Mountain

Last spring I was hiking the AT section through Tennessee and got hit with a sudden hailstorm above 6000 feet. My tent poles snapped because I was using a cheap Amazon special that I bought for $40. Anyone have recommendations for a solid 3-season tent under $250 that can actually handle mountain weather?

Solid 3-season tent under $250 that can actually handle mountain weather" is asking a lot, I'll be honest. I grabbed an REI Half Dome a few years back on sale for around $200 and it's held up through some nasty winds and rain, though I did have to seam seal it myself. Your mileage may vary but the snap on my trekking poles actually saved me once when a freak gust hit near Grayson Highlands.

Good tip on seam sealing from the start - saves so much hassle later.
