Dropped $80 on a fancy water filter for the PCT and it clogged on day 3
I bought one of those expensive squeeze filters with the ceramic element before my trip on the Pacific Crest Trail last summer. Figured it'd be faster and last longer than the cheap ones. By day three near Idyllwild, the flow was down to a trickle. Spent an hour trying to backflush it on the trail and barely got any improvement. Ended up borrowing my buddy's Sawyer Squeeze the rest of the way. Has anyone else had luck with those ceramic ones or am I just doing something wrong?

My buddy swore by his ceramic filter for years, called it his desert tank. He hit a stretch of super silty water in the Sierra and it just gave up. We watched him squeeze for twenty minutes to get half a liter. He ended up trading a guy some snacks for a basic squeeze filter at the next resupply and never looked back.

Hate when gear you trust just fails like that. Ceramic filters are great until they meet real silt. Makes you rethink what "reliable" really means on the trail, right?
