DAE have a trail chat that totally flipped your plan?

I was set on doing the whole 45-mile loop in the Sawtooths next month, but this guy at the gear shop in Boise said, 'Man, the west side is just burnt out and sad now, the real magic is in the alpine lakes on the east fork.' It made me stop and actually look at the fire maps from last year. Anyone else had a local tip completely change your route?

A ranger in Yosemite saved me from a 20 mile mistake last fall.

A 20 mile mistake... that's wild. I honestly can't believe someone would just accidentally wander 20 miles off course like that. Like, were you just not paying attention to trail markers or did you take a wrong turn and just keep going? I would have realized something was off after like 2 miles max and turned around. Rangers really do save people from themselves sometimes, huh.

Oh man, did a ranger ever save me from a swampy mess? I was dead set on this coastal hike until she mentioned the mosquito hatch was biblical that week. I checked the trail reports and noped right out, switched to a ridge walk instead. It was totally dry and empty. Those local tips are worth their weight in gold.
