Appreciation post: finally hiked the Lost Coast Trail after years of hearing about it
I was always skeptical that a 25 mile coastal stretch could rival the Sierra but after doing the northern section last weekend I get the hype now, anyone else find a route that surprised them way more than expected?

I read somewhere that the Lost Coast has this unique microclimate where the fog rolls in so thick you can barely see your hand in front of your face, but then it clears up in five minutes. A buddy of mine did the whole 25 miles last spring and said the coastal views actually beat Yosemite for him, which I thought was crazy talk. But then I did a short stretch near Shelter Cove last summer and yeah, the way the mountains just drop straight into the ocean is something else entirely. Your mileage may vary, but I'd put it up there with anything in the Sierras for sheer wow factor.
