A hiker on the PCT told me my water plan was risky, they were right
Last summer I was doing a section near Ashland, Oregon. I had my whole route mapped with creeks every 8 miles or so. This older guy at a campsite asked to see my map and said I was gonna run dry between mile 142 and 149 because that spring dries up by August. I brushed it off. 3 days later I was scraping mud for water filters. Had to hitch 12 miles into town. Now I always ask locals or recent thru-hikers about current conditions before I trust a map. Anyone else have a route fail because of outdated water source info?
