Walked through the boneyard at Pima Air and Space and counted 9 different connector styles on one old cockpit
Was down in Tucson two weeks ago and did the tram tour at Pima Air and Space Museum. They let you get close to some of the retired airframes and I spent most of the time staring at the wiring bundles behind the panels on a old fighter. Counted 9 different connector types just on one instrument panel, and half of them I had to look up when I got home. Makes me wonder how the old guys kept it all straight without a laptop full of pinouts. Anyone here ever work on legacy iron where every system had its own plug standard?
Man, I gotta disagree about it being some lost art. Those old guys had tech orders and wiring diagrams thicker than a phone book, plus they only ever worked on a handful of airframes their whole career.
