PSA: That fiber optic termination kit from the supply closet almost cost me a $12k repair
Last Tuesday at DAL, I used a cleaver that had been sitting in the tool drawer for months and it was dull as hell - left micro-cracks in the splice. Anyone else check their termination tools before every job now, or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?

I started keeping a spare cleaver in my go bag after I had a batch of terminations fail a few years back. Now I just replace the blade every 20 splices or so, keeps me from getting lazy.

lol that's some next level prep right there. Cleaver in the go bag sounds like you're ready for the zombie apocalypse or a bad fiber day, not sure which is scarier lol. 20 splices blade change though, that's solid discipline. I've seen guys run a blade til it's basically a butter knife and then wonder why their loss numbers are trash.
