Observations on the software update workflow in our bay

We used to set aside time for each plane to load updates from discs. Now, with systems linked to the network, updates roll out during normal checks. This has us watching out for version mismatches and gear that doesn't play nice. It really changes how we lay out our day.

Does this new way really save you any time? I've seen similar changes where the supposed time saved just becomes hidden work. Now you're not loading discs, but you're constantly checking for mismatches and babysitting the gear that won't connect right. It turns a known block of time into random little headaches all day. That seems to mess with your plan more than help it. You trade one big job for a bunch of small, unpredictable ones.

The little tasks really do add up to more total hassle.

Exactly. Why do we keep falling for the promise of less work that just turns into a different kind of work? I spent a whole weekend setting up a new smart home gadget that was supposed to save me time. Now I spend more time talking to it and fixing its mistakes than I ever did just flipping a light switch. It feels like the hassle just gets spread out into a hundred tiny, annoying moments.
