Hot take: I pick cheap multimeters over Flukes for bench work

I know everyone swears by Fluke but my $35 Innova has survived 4 years of daily use without a single issue. Has anyone else found the expensive ones just aren't worth it for basic troubleshooting?

My Fluke sits in a drawer while my $30 Extech gets used every day. So why would I pay 10x more for the same readings? The cheap ones are fine for 99% of what people actually do on a bench. Unless you're measuring super sensitive stuff or need that cert for work, you're just paying for the name. I dropped my cheap meter off the bench twice and it still works fine. Maybe the Fluke is tougher but I could buy ten cheap ones for that price.

Oh man, I feel you on this one. I've got a nice Fluke that I baby and barely touch, but my no-name $25 special from Amazon is what I reach for every time. Dropped it off my truck tailgate into gravel last week and it still reads dead on. Why stress over a $400 meter when the cheap one does the job and I'm not terrified to use it? Do you find you actually trust your Extech more just because you're not worried about breaking it?
