The dealer told me my transmission fluid was "lifetime" at 60k miles, and I believed him for exactly 9 months
I was driving home from a job site in Dayton last March when the car started slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear, right around 78,000 miles. Took it to the shop and the guy pulled the pan and showed me fluid that looked like burnt coffee, plus a $4,200 quote for a rebuild. My aftermarket warranty covered it, but only after I sat on hold for 50 minutes and faxed them 11 pages of maintenance records they kept saying they never got. Here is the part that burns me, the warranty company only paid $2,800 because they said I failed to do "recommended" fluid changes, even though the dealer told me it was sealed for life. I fought it for 6 weeks, got the dealer to write a letter admitting they said that, and they bumped it to $3,900. If your warranty booklet even hints at "severe service" intervals, get the fluid changed and keep the receipt in your glovebox. Did any of you ever get a warranty claim denied over maintenance they told you not to do?
