I thought the dealer was pushing junk when he sold me the tire and wheel coverage, then I actually used it
When I bought my Civic in 2022 the finance guy talked me into tire and wheel protection for $600 and I kicked myself the whole drive home for saying yes. Figured it was just extra profit padding for them. Then in March I clipped a curb in a parking garage near my office in Columbus and gashed the sidewall on a tire that costs $280 to replace. I emailed the claim form Monday morning and had a check for the full amount by Thursday, no arguing, no runaround. Now I'm wondering if the paint protection they pitched me is actually worth it too, or if that one really is a waste?
Check the fine print on the paint plan before you bite. A lot of those only pay out for damage that goes through to the metal, so door dings and key scratches and rock chips that just mess up the clear coat get denied. And most of them require you to file through the dealer's approved shop, which means you are stuck with whatever work they do. Ask the finance guy straight up what the payout rules are and where you have to take the car, that answer alone usually tells you if it is worth it.
