My $300 scan tool ate a Saturday and then the cheap $40 one nailed it in 10 minutes
Bought a fancy bidirectional scanner off a truck vendor and it kept dropping comms on a 2012 F-150, then my buddy's knockoff OBD2 reader found a bad ground at the C223 connector, so has anyone else gotten burned by overpriced gear that just sits in the drawer?

Ugh, tell me about it. I dropped over $400 on a pro-grade scan tool a few years back and it couldn't even talk to my old Subaru’s ABS module. Then I pulled out this $20 Bluetooth dongle my cousin left in my glovebox, and it read the code and cleared it in like two minutes flat. I mean, the expensive one just sits in the drawer now collecting dust and mocking me every time I open it. It's honestly kind of embarrassing how often the cheap stuff just works better for the basic stuff I actually need.
