Just found out a quick lubed place cross-threaded my dad's drain plug...
He took his 2014 F-150 to one of those 10 minute places near us in Nashville. Next oil change I did for him 5 months later, the plug was barely hanging on when I crawled under it. Took me 20 minutes with a tap and die set to clean the threads. Anyone else seen this from those quick change places?

A shop did that to my old Civic and I didn't notice until the plug fell out on the interstate. That was a fun call to AAA.

That "fun call to AAA" part got me because I've been there myself except I was the one who forgot to tighten the drain plug on my buddies truck. @ninam86 what really gets me is how many shops wont even check the crush washer anymore they just reuse the old one and hope for the best. A loose plug usually starts as a small drip that you never notice until you hit a bump and lose all the oil at once. I always tell people to mark the plug with a paint pen after a change so you can see if it shifts even a little bit over time.
