Had to pick between a new hoist or used alignment rack for the shop

Ngl I went with the used alignment rack because we were getting too many tire complaints. Spent $4,200 on a Hunter rack from 2015 instead of dropping $8k on a new BendPak lift. First week was fine but now I'm chasing a calibration issue that's eating up my Saturdays. Anyone else regret skipping the hoist for more urgent shop needs?

Actually that used Hunter rack thing is a bit of a gamble. The 2015 models had a specific sensor issue that later ones didn't. Keith you're right about the software updates, but @simon_chen got a steal at $2k even if he had to learn the workarounds. The calibration problem you're facing sounds like it could be the camera alignment bracket, not the software itself. I had a buddy who chased a similar issue for weeks and it turned out to be a loose mounting bolt under the rack. Might save you a Saturday if you check that first.

Man idk, I feel you on that. I had a similar choice last year and I actually went the other way - got a used 2-post lift for $3k and kept kicking the alignment rack can down the road. It was a gamble but honestly the lift has been solid, just needed new cables. The alignment thing is tricky though, I've heard those used Hunter racks can be a pain if the previous shop didn't keep up with the software updates. Hope you get it sorted soon without too many more weekends lost.

Man I lucked into a guy selling his old one from a closing shop for $2k. Had to learn the software workaround myself but saved enough to grab a used scissor lift too. Hope yours works out.
