Had a coolant hose blow on a '98 Civic during a test drive in the middle of July

I was just past the old bridge on Route 9 when the steam started pouring out. The upper radiator hose had a split about two inches long, and the temp gauge was already pegged. I pulled over, let it cool for a solid hour, and used a roll of my emergency electrical tape as a temporary wrap to get it back to the shop. Has anyone else found a better roadside fix for a burst hose that actually holds up for a few miles?

Remember trying that once and my tape job looked like a kindergartner's art project. It held just long enough to get off the highway before spraying again. I keep a hose repair kit in the trunk now after that mess.

My first duct tape fix lasted maybe three blocks.

Ever think about how hot the pavement is when you try that? I tried patching a hose in a parking lot once and the tape adhesive just turned to goo from the heat. It basically slid right off before I even got back in the car.
