Finally figured out my fuel pressure issue after chasing it for 3 weeks
Had a 2005 Silverado come into the shop back in March that kept dying at random times. Customer said it felt like it was running out of gas even with a full tank. I swapped the fuel pump first, didn't fix it. Then the fuel filter, nope. Even checked the relay and wiring harness. Turns out it was the fuel pressure regulator on the return line. It was bleeding pressure back to the tank slowly after the truck warmed up for about 20 minutes. Found it by hooking up a pressure gauge and watching it drop from 58 psi to 32 psi over 15 minutes. That was a tough one because the pressure only failed when the engine got hot. Anyone else deal with a pressure regulator that tested fine cold but failed hot?

So what's the deal, did you try just hitting the regulator with a hammer when it was cold to see if it started acting up early? Sounds like that truck was playing games with you on purpose, like an ex who only reveals their true colors after you're already invested. Three weeks is brutal though, I would have just set it on fire by week two and called it a loss. At least you got a fancy new fuel pressure gauge out of the deal to hang on the wall.
