Finally caved and tried a serpentine belt tool after fighting with a pry bar for 10 years
I used to think those special belt tools were a waste of money. Why pay $30 when a long breaker bar or a pry bar does the same thing right? Then last month I had to do a belt on a 2015 F-150 where the tensioner was buried behind the frame rail. After 20 minutes of swearing and nearly slicing my knuckles open, I walked to the parts store and grabbed one. That job took me under 5 minutes after that. I still think some specialty tools are a ripoff but that one actually saved me time and blood. Anyone else hold out on a tool and regret it later?

Man I was exactly the same way, swore by my pry bar until I wrestled with a buried tensioner on a minivan and finally gave in. That tool paid for itself in saved skin and frustration, no doubt about it.

Yeah exactly, @betty_shah I learned that lesson the hard way too. That tensioner tool is a lifesaver once you stop fighting it. Saves so much grief on those tight jobs.
