Customer brought in a 2012 Focus yesterday with a 'weird noise'

Three hours of diag later and it's a cracked flexplate. They drove it 40 miles to get here. Told me they been hearing it for 6 months. How do you ignore a sound that bad for half a year? Anyone else get people who wait till it's almost dead before bringing it in?

Six months is wild lol. My grandpa had a 2005 F-150 that made a grinding noise every time he turned left for like a year and a half. He told me it was just the "Ford moan" and kept driving it. Turns out it was the power steering pump mount completely snapped. One bolt holding it all together. He only brought it in cause the steering got heavy. People get used to noises, you know? They just turn up the radio and pretend it's fine. It's like they think if they ignore it long enough the car will fix itself.

Or sometimes the fix costs more than the truck's worth, so why bother.
