Vent: Overspray ruined a customer's black trim and I got chewed out

Last Tuesday I had a 2018 Honda Accord in the booth. Got lazy and didn't tape off the rear window trim. Figured I'd just wipe the overspray off later. Wrong. That textured black plastic absorbed the paint and looked like garbage. Customer came back next day screaming. Cost me $200 out of pocket to replace the trim and my shop rate took a hit. Anyone else learn this lesson the hard way with textured trim?

Wait, isn't part of being a good painter knowing where you can and can't cut corners? I've been spraying for 8 years and textured trim is like public enemy number one for overspray. That stuff is way too porous to just "wipe off" later, that's a rookie mistake. You should have known better than to trust that gamble, especially on a customer's car. It sucks that it cost you $200, but honestly that's a cheap lesson in not getting lazy with prep work.

That textured trim is basically a sponge and nobody talks enough about how bad it soaks up clear coat.
