Used to swear by bondo for every dent... until an old timer showed me how to use a stud welder

I was at a shop in Nashville last summer helping a buddy and this guy in his 60s walks over while I'm mixing up filler. He just shakes his head and says "you're making more work for yourself kid." He pulled out a stud welder and had that dent pulled and smoothed in like 20 minutes. I had been spending an hour plus grinding and sanding filler on stuff that could have been pulled way faster. Got my own stud welder the next week and now I only use filler for tiny stuff or rust repair. Anyone else have an old timer change how you work?

Man that's the truth. I switched to a stud welder a few years back after watching a guy fix a creased door skin in like 15 minutes. Now I only break out the filler for tiny pin holes or seams that need a skim coat. Saves so much elbow grease lol.

Wait, you're telling me people actually fix door skins that clean with a stud welder? I always figured that was just for pulling dents on body panels you were gonna paint anyway. Then my buddy showed me his trick for a creased fender on his old pickup and I was shocked. He had it looking damn near perfect in under 20 minutes with hardly any filler. Completely changed how I look at body work now.
