The $40 da sander that killed my $4k spot repair habit

Been fighting blend lines on metallic paint for months. Last Thursday I tried a dual action sander with a soft backing pad instead of my usual hard pad on a Nissan fender. Sanded the base coat with 800 grit, then feathered it out with 1500 before clear. The soft pad followed the body line way better, no more cut throughs at the edge. Took about 20 minutes less per panel too. Has anyone else switched pad firmness and seen that big a difference, or is my technique just trash?
