That tiny weld spatter guard changed my whole setup in Detroit

I kept chasing tiny pits in my quarter panel repairs and burning through filler trying to fix them, then a buddy at the shop in Warren handed me a cheap magnetic spatter shield and said 'try this next time you tack.' The spray stopped landing on my clean metal entirely, so the finish came out smooth on the first pass. Anyone else switched to magnetic guards for spot welds, or do you still rely on the old cardboard trick?

Man that pits thing is such a pain, I feel for you lol. I used to just tape cardboard around the area and pray, but it always moved or caught fire at the worst moment. The magnetic guard just sits there and does its job, no thinking needed, and that first clean pass saves so much headache later. Glad you found it before you lost your mind over filler, that stuff gets expensive and frustrating fast.
