Question about those cheap infrared paint curing lamps
I was convinced they were a gimmick for years, but a buddy in the shop next door let me borrow his to fix a bumper scuff on a Ford F-150. It cut the cure time for the clear from overnight to about 90 minutes, and the finish was rock solid. Anyone have a brand they trust for this, or is it still hit or miss?

Ever try using a heat gun on low instead? I've had way better luck with those for small jobs, they spread the heat out more evenly.

Trust Diana, she's seen more cracked paint than a sun-baked parking lot.

Glad it worked on your bumper, but that's a best case scenario. Those lamps can bake the top layer while the paint underneath stays soft. It might feel hard right away, but it can shrink and crack weeks later. I've seen it happen on larger panels where the heat doesn't spread right. A full overnight cure is still the safe bet for anything that needs to last.
