Moved to a paint mixing system from mixing by hand and wish I'd done it sooner
I've been mixing my own paint colors by hand for like 8 years (you know, eyeballing it and hoping for the best). Finally broke down and got one of those $300 digital mixing systems last month after a customer complained about a slight mismatch on their Toyota Camry. The color match is so much more consistent now, and I'm saving about 20 minutes per job. Anyone else held out on a piece of equipment forever and then regretted not getting it sooner?

Funny timing... I held onto my old paint mixer for about six years past its prime. Thing was held together with duct tape and good intentions. Finally upgraded to a $250 system last spring and the first time I mixed a perfect batch of Behr Marquee in one pass I almost cried about all those years of adding a splash more white and saying "close enough." Now I'm that guy who actually double checks the formula instead of just hoping for the best.

It is weird how often we settle for good enough when proper tools exist.

@mitchell.shane that "close enough" hit me right in the gut because I've got a buddy who still mixes paint like it's a cocktail and just hopes it's close. You probably saved more money than you think by not having to redo a whole wall though.
