Just spent 3 hours on a simple door ding because of hidden rust

Had a 2012 Civic come in with what looked like a quick PDR job on the rear quarter. Once I got the panel off, found a ton of rust under the factory seam sealer that spread way up into the wheel arch. Ended up taking the whole afternoon to cut, weld, and finish it right. Anyone else get totally blindsided by rust on a job you thought would be easy?

Ugh, that reminds me of the time I found a whole nest of those spiky seed pods under our deck boards... it was like they were planning a little invasion. Angela_wilson78, your panel surprise sounds way worse though, because at least mine was just plants. The feeling of reaching into a dark space and touching something unexpected is the absolute worst. It just freezes you for a second while your brain catches up. I still get jumpy now whenever I have to lift up any kind of cover outside.
