Heard a guy at the parts counter say filler is just for lazy body men
This dude was going off to the counter guy about how he doesn't use filler, just hammers everything perfect. I've been doing this 12 years in Denver. Last Tuesday I spent 4 hours on a quarter panel on a 2015 F-150 because the customer didn't want to pay for a new one. You better believe I skimmed some filler on it before primer. It's not lazy, it's practical. Anyone else get tired of the purist act?

That's the thing about these guys who talk like that... they've probably never worked on a modern truck with all those compound curves. I had a '19 Ram 1500 last winter, rocker panel was rotted but the cab corner was still solid. Spent an hour and a half with the hammer and dolly getting it close, then a thin skim of filler to finish it off. The customer couldn't tell the difference, and that panel's still holding up fine a year later. Purists act like filler is cheating but they're usually the ones who haven't had to fix a rusty quarter in a hurry...

Right? That "filler is cheating" thing is everywhere now. I see it with cooking too where people act like using a premade pie crust or a jar of sauce makes you a fake chef, but half the time they can't even tell the difference in the finished dish. It's like this whole purity test for everything these days where people gatekeep how you're supposed to fix or make something when the real goal is just getting it done right.
