Found out my sanding block was the problem after 9 years in the shop

Been using the same worn down 3M block since 2015 and wondered why my feathering kept looking patchy. Last Tuesday a neighbor who does paintless dent repair handed me his fresh Dura-Block and said, feel that edge. I'm going through my whole cabinet now, any of you guys replace your blocks on a schedule or just when they feel off?

Nine years on the same block? That thing probably had more bondo dust in it than actual foam left. I checked mine after reading this and realized my "feather" was more like a "feather duster" at this point. I just replace mine when the grit starts feeling like a smooth river rock, or when I drop it one too many times on the concrete floor. Which honestly is about every three months for me, but I'm also a klutz who can't hold onto anything. Maybe that's the real schedule I should admit to.
