Dropped $1,800 on a spot welder off a Facebook listing in Dallas, and the ground clamp was junk
Seller showed me a test weld on clean 18 gauge that looked perfect but the clamp lug was corroded inside the handle and my first panel burned through at 30 percent power, so now I bring my own clamp and a scrap coupon to every used tool buy. Anyone got a trick for testing a welder in a parking lot without dragging a generator?
corroded inside the handle" is exactly why I always wiggle the clamp and peek at the lug before handing over cash. If they won't let you look, walk. Parking lot test without a genny? Just bring a scrap coupon and make them run a bead, the machine tells on itself.
