Can we talk about that 1998 Ford Taurus I did a full respray on?

Pulled this old Taurus into the shop looking like it had been through a sandstorm in Arizona. Clear coat was completely gone on the hood and roof, just down to primer and rust spots everywhere. I sanded it down, laid three coats of single stage, and wet sanded the final layer. Sixteen hours later that car looked like it just rolled off the lot. Anyone else get a kick out of bringing a total beater back to life?

What kind of paint did you go with on that single stage? I've always wondered if the old Ford single stage formulas laid down smoother than the modern urethane stuff or if it was all in the prep work. I've got a 95 Mystique with the same cancer on the hood and I'm trying to figure out if I should just wet sand and reclear or strip it all the way down like you did.

Did you try just buffing the hood first to see if it'd come back? Sometimes I've surprised myself with how much shine I could pull back out of old Ford clear with a heavy cut compound.
