A guy at the salvage yard in Fresno told me to stop buying aftermarket bumper brackets and I finally listened
I used to swear by the cheap aftermarket brackets for collision repairs because insurance pays out so tight on older Camrys and I was tired of eating the cost difference. Last spring I had a 2014 Camry in the bay with a front hit, and the aftermarket bracket I put on kept pulling the cover out of alignment no matter how much I tweaked it. I drove out to a yard off 99 and a guy named Hector sold me a used OEM bracket for $40, and it bolted up straight the first try. Now I want to know if anyone else has a hookup spot for OEM hardware or if you just eat the cost on every job.
Does Hector let you pull your own parts or does he have them already off the shelf? If he lets you walk the yard yourself, that changes everything because you can grab every clip and bolt that matches instead of hoping the aftermarket kit got the shapes right. Half my comebacks on front hits came from cheap fasteners, not the bracket itself.
