A customer in Boise told me my clear coat looked 'like a bowl of oatmeal' and now I always check my gun's pressure before starting.

He was right, the texture was awful, so I bought a cheap gauge and test on a scrap panel first, which has saved me from redoing three jobs this month alone, so what's the dumbest but most useful piece of feedback you've ever gotten?

Funny how the most basic advice is often the one you need to hear. It's like someone telling you to check your tire pressure before a road trip. You know you should, but you skip it until you get a flat. That oatmeal comment was just a colorful way of saying "you missed a step," and those little course corrections add up. Saves a lot of hassle down the road.

Okay but is checking the pressure really that big of a deal? I get that it fixed your problem, but it sounds like a basic step you should already be doing. Feels like getting praised for remembering to put your pants on in the morning. Still, if it saved three jobs, maybe the bar is just that low for some shops.

Our shop's last hire didn't know what a pressure gauge was.
