A customer asked me to match her nail polish to her bumper, then got mad when I said that

She handed me a tiny bottle of sparkly pink polish from her purse and said 'just scan this code or something' while I was holding a paint chip fan at the front counter in Phoenix last Tuesday, so has anyone else dealt with people who think paint codes work like barcodes?

my buddy who does auto detailing had someone hand him a scrap of rusted metal and ask him to match their car's paint to it, like it was a swatch from the hardware store. he just stared at it for a solid minute before going "this is just rust, man" and the customer got all huffy. people really think color matching is some kind of magic trick, not a whole process with lighting and undertones.
