Tried to shoot the Orion Nebula from my apartment roof in Chicago and my 4 year old tripod finally gave out

That "finally gave out" hits home because my old tripod did the exact same thing last month while I was out shooting the moon. The plastic clamp on one leg just snapped and my camera did a slow nosedive into the grass, scared me half to death. The mount failed right at the worst time, so now I'm lugging around a heavy one from a thrift store that at least feels solid.
