Transparency stack tip an old astrophotographer gave me at a star party saved my M42 shot

I was struggling with star bloat on my Orion Nebula images last winter, and a guy named Joe at the local club said to try shorter subs with higher gain instead of chasing long exposures. I cut my exposure from 120 seconds down to 30 and got way more detail in the core on my first try. Has anyone else found a simple tweak that changed their processing workflow?

Can't BELIEVE I never thought of just cutting my subs like that!

Wait, are you talking about the trick where you slice them at an angle first? I tried that once and ended up with a bunch of weird shaped pieces that didn't even fit right.
