Totally dismissed star tracker photos until I tried one myself

I spent 2 years thinking star trackers were just overpriced gadgets for people with too much gear. Then I borrowed a friend's Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer last month and got a single 3-minute exposure of the Orion Nebula that blew away anything I'd done with 30-second shots. Has anyone else had a change of heart about some piece of gear they were sure was overhyped?

Isn't it funny how we convince ourselves something is unnecessary until we actually try it and realize we were just making excuses for not learning something new... it's like when I swore manual cars were pointless until I actually drove one and felt that connection to the road.

Push back on that a little. Manual cars are just extra work for no real payoff in most daily driving, especially if you sit in traffic. I learned on a stick and hated it, spent years swearing I’d never go back, and bought an automatic the second I could afford one. The “connection” people talk about feels like nostalgia for something that’s honestly just annoying when you’re stuck on a hill or merging onto a highway.
