TIL stacking my phone pics gives a fake aurora effect
Last week I was bored during a cloudy night in Portland and stacked 12 handheld shots of the moon on a free app. The result looked like a glowing ribbon, not the moon, and it clicked for me how easy it is to fake detail in astro photos. I've been blaming expensive cameras for my weak shots, but honestly my technique was the problem. Anyone else had a 'the gear was fine, I wasn't' moment after messing with stacking?
