TIL feedback on star stacking changed my whole approach to astro photos

I was posting some milky way shots I took in Arizona last month and someone told me my stars looked like tiny worms. They said I was stacking too many frames without proper alignment and it was smearing everything. I had been using default settings in my stacking software and never thought to tweak them. So I went back and re-did the stack with manual alignment and fewer frames, picking only the sharpest ones. The difference was night and day, the stars were crisp and the detail in the dust lanes popped way more. Has anyone else gotten a critique that made you redo your whole processing workflow?

Yeah, ditching the default align settings changed everything for my night shots too.
