That desert shoot in Moab that made me ditch my cheap tripod
Was out near Moab last month, 2am, trying to get the Milky Way arch shot. Wind picked up, 20 mph gusts. My $60 tripod started shaking like crazy. Every single 30 second exposure came out with star trails and blur. Lost the whole night, maybe 40 frames. Some photographer next to me had a beefy carbon fiber setup, rock solid. He let me try one shot with his rig. Night and day difference. Now I carry a sandbag on the center hook, always. Even that barely saves it. Anyone else wreck a shoot because of cheap gear? What do you use for wind?
