Switched from a phone camera to a used DSLR last month and it's night and day for moon shots
I was all about using my Pixel phone for astro photos because it's convenient and fits in my pocket. But after trying to capture a clear shot of the crescent moon 3 nights ago, I got nothing but a bright white blob. Borrowed a friend's old Canon T3i with a 70-300mm lens and the detail in the craters blew me away. Now I'm hunting on Craigslist for my own setup. Anyone else make the jump from phone to real camera and wish they did it sooner?

Ugh yes, my friend Sarah had the EXACT same thing happen! She spent months trying to get a decent moon pic with her iPhone and got so frustrated she almost gave up. Then her dad handed her his old Nikon D5300 and she texted me at midnight freaking out because she could actually see the craters.

Wait, your friend got a clear moon shot with a D5300? That's wild, because my buddy Mark tried the same thing with his Canon and ended up getting a photo that looked like a fuzzy cheese ball. He was so mad he threw it in a drawer for like two years. Then last month he dug it out, watched a 10 minute YouTube tutorial, and now his profile pic is this insane crater shot where you can see the shadows and everything. It's kinda funny how one right setup can make all the difference.
