My telescope camera mount broke during a meteor shower last month

I was out in my backyard near Flagstaff on a clear night during the Perseids. Setup took about 20 minutes, got everything aligned, then the little plastic clip that holds my DSLR to the telescope just snapped. Camera fell about 6 inches onto the tripod leg, luckily no damage to the lens. I had to hold the camera in place by hand for the next hour while trying to take long exposure shots. Ended up with maybe 3 usable frames out of 30 because of the shaking. Has anyone else dealt with cheap plastic parts failing right when you need them most?

Is this really a big deal though? I mean yeah it's annoying when plastic snaps, but you held a camera for an hour and got 3 usable shots. So you made it work. Seems like you're making this sound like a tragedy when it's really just a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. Those parts are cheap for a reason and they break all the time. If you're out there doing astrophotography you should already know plastic is gonna fail at the worst possible moment. That's just how this hobby works.

Might want to invest in metal parts if you're serious about astrophotography.
