Just remembered showing my dad the Andromeda Galaxy through my old telescope

It was in our backyard in 2012, using a cheap 4-inch reflector I saved up for. He looked for a long time and just said, 'It's all right there, isn't it?' and that quiet moment stuck with me more than any photo I've taken since. What's a simple moment that made you appreciate this hobby?

But what if that quiet moment was just boring? My dad would have rather seen a clear photo online instead of a fuzzy blob in my cheap scope. Sometimes the real memory is just wishing you had better gear to actually show someone something cool.

What's your favorite memory with that old scope?

You asking about that old scope? Man, the best memory has to be the night I saw Saturn's rings for the first time. It was freezing cold, like 20 degrees, and I was shaking so bad I could barely keep the planet in view. But when that little ringed dot snapped into focus, I just stood there for like ten minutes staring. No photo could ever beat that feeling of seeing it with your own eyes, even if it was just a tiny fuzzy blob.
