How a simple tracker changed my mind on telescope costs

I used to be sure that a costly telescope was the only way to get good photos of space objects. For example, I passed on shooting the Pleiades because my kit lens seemed too weak. Then I borrowed a basic star tracker and used my old DSLR to capture the Lagoon Nebula with stacked shots. Now I think learning to stack and track matters more than expensive glass. But I know folks who swear by high-end scopes for sharper details. Where do you all fall on the gear versus technique debate? Have your own experiences shifted like mine?

It's interesting how a tracker can unlock potential in basic gear. But when people talk about sharp details from expensive scopes, is that mostly from the optics or from mastering techniques like calibration frames? What specific targets have you found where technique just can't compensate for cheaper equipment? I'm curious if the gap closes with more practice or if some objects just demand better hardware.

Try stacking shots without a tracker once and got star trails that looked like spaghetti! My shaky hands were the issue, not my cheap gear.
